Laura Ashley The Tea Room , opened in Solihull in 2017 followed by the first in the South of England at Burnham Beeches Hotel in Summer 2018, and the newest addition in Coventry in November 2018.
The Tea Room is located in the beautiful Victorian Manor, Chace Hotel in Coventry.
We had afternoon tea in the Kensington Room. A room beautifully decorated with Laura Ashley ornaments and accessories. It sure was the perfect setting.
The tea rooms offer a range of options including a Vegan one. Nigel Cooke, Head Chef at Laura Ashley The Tea Room Solihull, said: “With the rise of veganism in the UK we’ve seen an increase in vegan diners visiting the tea rooms.
Prices start at £20 per person. They also offer a children’s one from £10 per person.
Kev and I tried the Traditional Afternoon Tea and the Vegan one on our visit. Once we ordered our drinks (Hot chocolate for Kev & English Breakfast Tea for me) we received soup as an amuse-bouche; tomato soup was the Vegan option and the other was a creamy vegetable soup.
Traditional Afternoon Tea:
The tiered tray came with British Afternoon Tea classics.
- Sandwiches: There was a selection of traditional sandwiches as well as some with a modern twist. The tier had Cucumber Cream Cheese, Egg Mayonnaise & Watercress and Honey Roast Ham with English Mustard sandwiches, a mini Scottish Salmon brioche and Welsh rarebit. The sandwiches were enjoyable however I would have liked just a bit more filling in them to make them substantial. The variation of bread was a nice twist to have.
- Scones: A plain and raisin buttermilk scone were served with clotted cream, strawberry jam & lemon curd. The scones were perfectly made and tasted fresh.
- Cakes & Pastries: The sweet treat tier had a White Chocolate Macaroon, Raspberry Ccheesecake, Apple & Bramble Tart and a Tiramisu & Coffee Cake. My favourite was the Apple & Bramble Tart. It had the perfect consistency and was full of flavour.
Vegan Afternoon Tea:
I am not Vegan but was intrigued by the Vegan option. I can confirm I was not disappointed. In fact I preferred the Vegan scones and cakes.
- Sandwiches: The vegan sandwiches included Cucumber and Vegan spread, Hummus & Roasted Vegetable, Tomato & Shallot Chutney, and an Avocado & Lime crostini. Like the traditional tea, This was a nice mix to have and a great selection too. I would have liked to see more filling in the sandwiches to have more flavour.
- Scones: Two plain scones were served with a beautiful coconut cream and strawberry jam. The scones were a good consistency and the coconut cream had a lovely velvet texture. If I could have this option every time I had scones I would. I am not a fan of clotted cream and this alternative is perfect.
- Cakes & Pastries: This included a Chocolate Cake topped with raspberries, Classic Strawberry Sponge cake, Banana & Walnut cake and a Coconut Cream macaroon. If you are a coconut fan like me this is a lovely treat.
It was an enjoyable experience and one i would recommend especially as The Tea Room covers various dietary requiments and offers Afternoon Tea for children.
