Ibis Hotels are affordable quality hotels, perfectly located. Ibis Styles are their personalised range of hotels. The hotels are themed according to where the hotel is located, giving them a unique look. The themes also give the hotel a boutique feel.
Ibis Styles have been around for a few years, but it was only recently when we had a weekend away in London I discovered and stayed at one.
Lobby Area
Ibis Styles Southwark is theatre themed, based on the neighbouring West End. The hotel is a perfect location for sightseeing and is located within walking distance of Borough Market, London Bridge and the Metro rail.
There is no formal reception desk at the hotel which made the entrance area more stylish and welcoming. The staff are around the area 24 hours to assist guests. The reception area had a complimentary popcorn maker, a table filled with showbiz lights and a piano. With the red carpet outside and vintage wingback armchairs, you actually feel like you are entering a theatre rather than a hotel. The whole of the lobby area is furnished with theatre-based decor.
There is a bar in the lobby that guests can visit during their stay. It is open until late and offers a wide range of drinks and snacks.
The staff were accommodating throughout the visit and had perfect knowledge of the local area. Nothing was too much for them and they made us feel like valued guests.
The check-in process was smooth and quick. Once our details were confirmed the staff member showed us the way to our room.
Rooms
The rooms are contemporary and the theatre theme continued in our room which made it feel more personalised.
We had a double room with an iconic view of the Shard. The room also had a Nespresso machine alongside all the normal amenities (tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries, safe iron & hairdryer) . There were a couple of USB charging points and a good-sized TV. Free Wifi was available through out the hotel.
The soundproof glazing and comfy queen bed ensured we had a good night sleep. They also had lined curtains to avoid any light coming in.
The bathroom was sparkly, well lit, clean and well maintained. The shower screen had music bars and lyrics printed on.
Breakfast
All room rates include breakfast which is served in the perfectly decorated restaurant. Quirky lampshades, studio lighting and fixtures, the room has a cosy feel to it.
The breakfast was continental and there was a comprehensive spread. From cold meats to pastries there was a nice selection for all.
The hot drinks stand had a biscuit tin which always goes down well. The tea bags and sugar were displayed in a guitar case.
The restaurant has a hot drinks machine, complimentary for all guests to use during their stay. Snacks and meals are available here too.
I would recommend the iBis Styles Southwark for location, value for money, service and to give you the West End feel.
