Cooking with Schwartz Italian Herbs

Meatballs are so easy to cook and always make a great Italian dish. I love mine herby,  full of flavour & bite-size. Schwartz Italian Herb Seasoning makes this possible.

Herby Meatballs Recipe
Ingredients:

 

 

  • 500g lean mince pork (or turkey)
  • 4 tablespoons Schwartz Italian herb
  • 1 egg
  • 1 white onion chopped
  • 1 bulb of garlic (10 cloves) crushed
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (I use fresh breadcrumbs that I have previously made from stale bread and frozen)
  • 1/2 cup cheese (I went for Red Leicester)
  • 2 chillies crushed
  • 1 jar of Passata ( I love the Cirio brand)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
Method:
Meatballs
Mix the mince, 2 tablespoons  Schwartz Italian Herb seasoning, egg, 3/4 the crushed garlic, breadcrumbs, cheese and 1 crushed chilli in a bowl until well combined. Let this chill for about an hour so the mince can marinate.

 

 

  • Once marinated, take the mince out of the fridge and let it get to room temperature before adding and mixing in 1/2 the white onions. If you don’t have time to marinate the meatballs, add in the onions and start making the meatballs.
  • Prepare small equal balls (the smaller the better).
  • Heat a pan on medium with 2 tablespoons of rapeseed oil. Add in the meatballs and let them look evenly for about 15 minutes. Turn them twice whilst they cook for they are evenly brown.
  • Once cook set them aside
Sauce
Whilst the meatballs are frying you can prepare the tomato sauce.
  • Heat a tablespoon of rapeseed oil in a pan and add in the remaining onions (1/2) and let them cook until soft and almost clear.
  • Add in the remaining garlic and the other chilli and let this cook for about five minutes ensuring they do not burn.
     

  • Add in 2 tablespoons of Schwartz Italian herb seasoning and let this cook for another five minutes before adding in the passata. Stir and let this simmer on low heat until the sauce has slightly thickened.
  • Add in the meatballs and give the pan a light swirl so all the meatballs are covered with the sauce. If you find it’s too thick add in some boiling water and let this cook for five minutes.
I served my meatballs with spaghetti but these juicy herby meatballs would taste nice with a salad too. I made a Caprese Salad too with some torn mozzarella, chopped cherry tomatoes, torn basil, dashing of Filipino Extra Virgin Olive Oil and sprinkle of Schwartz Italian Herb seasoning.
