5 Places To Eat In North Goa

Goa is food heaven for many including me (big seafood fan). On our recent trip, we ate at some lovely restaurants. Goa has so many good places to eat and its hard to pick one. We were a group of at least 8 and our criteria was a place that was clean, good food including traditional dishes and great ambiance.

Jackson’s Beach Shack
Location: Candolim Beach Rd, Beach, Candolim, Goa 403515, India
This shack is in a prime location. There is a good selection on the menu and the staff are happy to make something off the menu too.
We got to the shack around 2pm. Starting with a few starters followed by mains, every dish was fresh tasting and delicious. Portions were generous and each main dish came with fries or rice and salad.
The drinks on offer were great with a good and reasonable cocktail selection. The mojitos went down a treat. 10 of us ate and drank comfortably for £120. Our meal included fresh prawns, pomfret and crabs. The service was great and the wait for food was not too long. Around 5pm we wanted some masala chai this was no problem for the staff who brewed some karak chai for us which we enjoyed with biscuits (in true Indian style). 
If you dine at Jackson’s shack, you will get access to free sunbeds (a bonus). There were two massage ladies to the side of the shack and whilst waiting for the sun to set we all managed to get relaxing half an hour foot massages for £2 each (just remember to haggle).
Washrooms were at the back of the shack. They were clean and stocked.

Souza Lobo 
Location: Calangute Beach, Calangute, Goa 403516, India
Another beachfront restaurant serving delicious Goan cuisine. Souza Lobo had a lively atmosphere. We were a group of 16 and had a perfect table outdoor by the beach on a warm evening. The service was good and we had an enjoyable meal.
On the evening I sampled a bit of everything that was on the table. From drunken chicken to juicy king prawns and crispy potato skins, the food was authentic, fresh and delicious. For mains I had their crab Xaccuti. There was more curry than needed however we had ample crab pieces. The food had the right spice and was cooked to perfection.
Cocktails were a bit weak to start with however I spoke to the server and he corrected that quickly.
The beach was buzzing with music coming from the surrounding shacks/restaurants. It was the perfect lively atmosphere and a great way to celebrate my uncles & aunts 50th anniversary.
Washrooms were clean.

Brittos
Location: Baga Beach, House No.7, 171, Calangute – Baga Rd, Saunta Vaddo, Baga, Goa 403516, India

This is a very popular restaurant and it is advisable to book especially if you are in a large group and want to go peak time. We went around 3pm and it was still busy but luckily we managed to get a table for 12. The restaurant had a great vibe and live music was playing throughout the day. The restaurant is by the beach and the floor is all sand too.
From live crabs to traditional Goan dishes, Brittos has something for everyone. The prices are reasonable for items on the menu. Some items (freshly caught seafood) are priced based on weight and can work out pricey e.g a live king crab would be around £30. I prefer the smaller ones – think they are sweeter though a bit more messy to eat (however i enjoy getting stuck in). We had a variation of flavours on our table and every dish was delicious. The portion sizes were generous and the staff were great at telling us what to order and how much would be enough. Eg. one crab curry between two was plenty.
We tried some prawn samosas that were crisp pastry coated the chopped up prawns and made a great starter. The crab samosas were not as enjoyable and lacked flavour. We also had Xaccuti crab curry, juicy medium masala prawns, pomfret, vegetable fried rice and cheesy garlic naan. The meal was scrumptious.  
The local beer, Kingfisher, was popular on our table however I did notice beer taps were popular on other tables. Brittos also do a couple of fancy cocktails including a melon one that had about 5 shots of alcohol and was served in a watermelon that had a great amount of pulp in it too. Priced at less than 600 rupees this was a bargain. They have a vast selection of drinks to choose from. The total bill came to around £180 for 12 of us.
 
There were two clean toilet cubicles for women.

Angaara 
Location: Candolim,Candolim Beach Rd, Near Silver Sand Sunshine Hotel, Murrod Vaddo, Candolim, Goa 403515, India

The restaurant is part of the Silver Sands Sunshine hotel. Angaara advertises itself as a BBQ & Grill Restaurant however caters for a wide market and serves a selection of dishes. From pasta to curries to hanging skewers, there is something for everyone.
12 of us went for dinner. We picked this restaurant because we fancied indo chinese and this came up as a recommended restaurant.
The food was good especially the Chinese noodles. We had a night off crabs and had chicken manchurian , recheado prawns and a selection of vegetarian dishes. The flavours of the dishes were great. The only downside was the chicken was a bit tough and the indian style pasta was not quite what we were expected. The food took a while to come for the adults however the noodle dish for the children was brought out much quicker. There was also a mix up and one of the dishes came much later because they forgot to put it through yet said they could not cancel it. Curries cost around £3 and cocktails about the same price too. Dinner for 12 people cost around £100. 
They had live music on and a few screens showing sports. The dining area is less airy and as a result can get smokey especially if you are by the smoking area.
Washrooms were clean.

Le Meridian Goa, Calangute
Location: Aguada – Siolim Rd, Gauravaddo, Calangute, Goa 403516, India

We stayed at Le Meridian and enjoyed some lovely breakfast here along with dinner on a couple of nights. 
The breakfast spread at Le Meridian was brilliant. We had breakfast included in our stay however this is available for 650 rupees. This seems pricey however you are eating in a hotel so likely to pay a premium and it wasn’t the most expensive. The chefs were accommodating and made special pancakes for my nephew. Nothing was too much for them. One morning we had a delicious fusion breakfast made by the in house chef Deekska. As well as the standard breakfast items you expect in a buffet, the hotel varied the type of dhosas they had every day as well as parathas so we never got bored.
On the weekend, Le Meridian had a seafood night by the pool. Fresh seafood, cooked in either masala or garlic marinade by the pool was a treat. The seafood was delicious and we enjoyed 2 lobsters for 4000 rupees and some juicy prawns too. The food took a long time to prepare, despite not being busy, however it was worth the wait. There was music by the pool and it was perfect for a late evening snack. 
On another late evening we had pizzas (600 rupees) for dinner at Latest Recipe, their continental restaurant. Perfect base, tasty toppings and nice and cheesy. My nephew had their pasta on a few occasions and it went down a treat. They also serve an evening buffet which is around 1000 rupees. We never tried this but it looked really good. A bonus was children ate free. 

We all found the food reasonable when eating out. We may have paid a bit more in some restaurants however considering the location and ambiance it was value for money. If we had more time we would have expored local eats. Also being in a big group it is harder to find somewhere than can accomodate us in short notice.
