The Langham Hotel in London serves its afternoon tea in Palm Court.
Palm Court is famous for being the place where the tradition of afternoon tea began, over 150 years ago. They serve a bespoke version of the afternoon tea tradition and won the award for Best Afternoon Tea Service 2018.
Ambience & Service
The ambience was perfect for the late afternoon tea. There was a pianist playing in the elegant setting which made it relaxing and enjoyable.
We went for the traditional afternoon tea with Wedgewood. Other options include the high tea with a glass of bubbly and a tea pairing one.
The service was flawless and spot on. Staff were upbeat, friendly and aware of guests progress. At no point were we waiting nor did we feel rushed.
The main event
Once seated, we were offered drinks which were delivered within a couple of minutes. I went for a traditional English breakfast tea while Kev had their hot chocolate.
My cup was filled up as soon as I finished my tea. At no point was I left waiting and at the same time I did not feel like they were looking over my shoulder.
A plate of sandwiches followed shortly. Super soft scrumptious sandwiches all with locally sourced ingredients. The waiter explained what each of the sandwiches were.
The bread was soft and the sandwiches were perfectly filled. The brioche was beautifully put together and each mouthful melted away.
We were also offered more sandwiches. I always find the savoury element in afternoon tea is not enough but not at Langham. They had the balance right.
Once we were finished with the sandwiches, our plates were cleared and a plate of pastries and chocolate was placed in front of us.
The server explained each of the items and told us how the chefs would recommend to eat them..start with the lemon cheesecake, followed by the Kentish strawberry tart, then the millefeuille and last the chocolate. Each of the sweet treats was beautifully created and full of flavour.
I changed to a Sanche tea which was perfectly brewed and had delicate notes to go with the treats.
The server also delivered a box to our table when the pastries came out. It had a cake with Caribbean chocolate ganache and he said that was complimentary for us to take away (something they do for all customers). What a great touch right?
We ended the afternoon tea with two perfect scones each, a plain and raisin one. The scones were dusted with icing sugar and were served warm.
There was clotted cream, homemade jam and pineapple marmalade to go with the scones. I would normally pick the jam however the marmalade was so delicious and I could not stop eating it and put the jam to one side.
We couldn’t finish all the scones and were able to take them away.
I couldn’t fault anything on my visit. The service was great, the food and drinks were delicious and the ambience was perfect. An afternoon tea I would recommend.
Artesian Bar at the Langham
We were at The Langham and I couldn’t leave without having a cocktail at their world-famous far, Artesian.
The bar was busy but luckily we only waited 5 minutes for a table. There was a vibrant buzz in the bar and we couldn’t wait to have a drink (despite just indulging in the afternoon tea).
The service was spot on. We were given a little complimentary taster of mint and creme de peach once we placed our order. Within a couple of minutes, two bowls of complimentary snacks were brought to the table too.
I went for the Armagnac & Zalloti Blossom cocktail. I wouldn’t normally have a brandy cocktail but the server recommended it based on what I liked. Served with basil flowers this was a strong but fruity cocktail. To keep it chilled the glass had a big rectangle block of ice. Artesian is known for having the latest technology for producing its ice and this is evident in many of their cocktails.
Cocktails are £20 at Artisan which is pricey but worth it for the whole experience. Also, it is a luxury cocktail bar and in London.
Are you planning to make a trip to London soon? Make sure you pay The Langham a visit. We bought out afternoon tea voucher from Virgin Experience Days however you can book directly.
