Air fryer Prawn toast toast in less than 20 minutes – yes you have read correctly. Lunches do not need to be boring anymore.
Fancy a prawn toast without the frying? How about a prawn toast sandwich packed with flavour? This is an easy lunch idea you will love.
Ingredients
- 2 spring onions cut in thirds
- Handful of coriander
- 300 grams raw prawns
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp chilli oil
- 1 tsp crushed garlic
- 1/2 tsp crushed ginger
- 1 egg (separated)
- Salt to taste (you may not require this cause of the soy sauce)
- Thick white bread
- Sesame seeds
- Sesame oil or normal oil for brushing bread

Method
- In a blender blitz the onions and coriander first. The reason for doing this first is because they take a bit longer to chop up
- Then add in the prawns and all pepper, soy sauce, egg white, chilli oil, garlic and ginger then blitz again briefly. You just want to do it enough for it to blend and roughly chop the prawns. You do not want a fine paste. I like the mini kitchen aid chopper for this because it doesn’t mush everything up.
- Cut the crusts off two thick slices of white bread.
- Lightly toast on one side.
- Spread about 2 tablespoons of the prawn mixture on one of the slices, on the toasted side.
- Cover it with the other slice, toasted side down.
- Cut the sandwich in half and brush the top side with some of the egg yolk and some oil. You can use the spray oil if you want.
- Turn and place on your foil/baking paper (whatever you use for the air fryer).
- Brush this side with egg yolk and oil and sprinkle sesame seeds.
- Place in the air fryer at 190 celcius for 8 minutes.
Enjoy these with your favourite dip. The beauty of these air fryer prawn toasts are they are crisp, full of flavour and not greasy. Also you get a great lunch in less than 20 minutes. It is a winner.
In the photos, you will notice there are 3 different types. This was part of my testing process. I tried it by just making one side like the original prawn toast and dipping it in sesame seeds before air frying and I also tried it without lightly toasting the bread before filling it. I have shared the recipe that worked the best. Toasting the bread on one side before spreading the prawn toast gives it that extra crunch and texture.
If you prefer not to have a sandwich, brush oil on one side of the bread. Then spread the prawn paste on the other side and dip it in sesame seeds. Put a couple of sprays of oil on top of the sesame side. Place in the Airfryer at 190 celsius for 7 minutes. I use this Ninja kitchen airfryer however there are so many in the market to choose from.
Toast works great in the air fryer. Here is another recipe to try with toast in the air fryer.
