Dining at 34 Mayfair

34 Mayfair has been on my never-ending list of places to go. Apart from serving great food, it is also known for the famous bauble ceiling they install over Christmas. It is a modern grill located in Mayfair, Grosvenor Square.

34 Mayfair

Our table was booked for 545pm. The doorman welcomed us and at the front desk, our booking details were taken. We were then directed to our table.

All staff had masks on and there was a sanitising station at the front desk too. Tables were distanced well, with some having clear screens between them. The open kitchen added to the ambience of the restaurant.

The service was brilliant and throughout staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Most of the cocktails we ordered were recommended by the waiter too.

The Nosh

We started with a complimentary selection of bread served with soft butter. The crispbread was so flavoursome and baked to perfection.

For starters, we had Yellowfin Tuna Tartare and Scallops with Nduja. Both of the dishes were beautifully presented.
The Tuna Tartare had a great balance of flavours and textures. The tuna was fresh and the ingredients perfectly balanced.
The Nduja on the scallops added that light kick to them and gave it such a lovely taste. The portion size was ideal. it was a delicious starter.

I knew I couldn’t miss a dessert at 34 Mayfair so for mains, I went with something lighter. I had the Crispy Duck Salad and my cousin had the Roast Cornish Lamb.
The crispy duck was perfectly cooked and the textures in the salad, well balanced. There was a slightly sweet sauce with nuts and charred pineapple to bring it all together. Even though I ordered a small portion, it was reasonable. The lamb portion size was generous and each mouthful melted away. Served with asparagus, broad bean and wild garlic it was beautiful.

We were full at this point but we had to squeeze in a dessert. We shared the “34 doughnuts”. The warm cinnamon and sugar-coated doughnuts came with a trio of sauces (raspberry, lemon curd and chocolate). These just filled that gap. They were so soft and freshly made. They literally melted away. For £9.25 this could easily be a dessert for two.

The Quaff

34 Mayfair have a classy creative cocktail menu. Each of the cocktails we had was beautifully created. Here is what we had:

  • Miss Piggy: A martini with Wyborowa vodka, pineapple, raspberry, topped with shimmer
  • Caribbean Cup: Pineapple, passion, lime and some rum
  • Black Velvet Bentley: Patrón XO Café, Engine Oil Porter, treacle, Champagne
  • Three Kings Yard Fizz: Belvedere, Lillet Rouge vermouth, Italicus liqueur lychee, vanilla, prosecco

Despite the time slot allocated to us for the meal, we were not rushed. The atmosphere was great and it was so nice to be enjoying a posh meal indoors.

When we went outside they had a little celebrity display on their terrace which was quite cute. There weren’t any displays inside however the setting makes it quite classy.
