Secret Food Tours is run by local people who have passion for food, history and culture. The tours are worldwide and a perfect way to learn about an area and have a great culinary experience.
On our weekend away in London, Kev & I went on the London Bridge Food Tour. The tour started by London Bridge station and lasted around 3 hours. Walking is involved however it is well paced. There were 11 of us on the tour which was a nice number on a busy Saturday afternoon.
We started off by learning a bit about the area including the bustling Borough Market and Southwark Cathedral which is by the arch where the High Street starts and London Bridge area stops.
We visited a couple of quirky places that would ordinarily be missed and saw some key sites like the Shard, Tower Bridge & The Golden Hinde.
The guide was good at pointing out famous filming locations including The flat Bridget Jones lived in.
Our tour guide Sam was brilliant and ensured on the windy day we had some varied sheltered stops including Hay’s Galleria, a Grade II listed mixed use building which was beautiful.
Food & Drink
The food tour focused on English favourites. The tour is secret so I will not give everything away. During the tour we got to try 6 food items, 2 alcoholic drinks (non alcoholic drinks offered too) and a tea.
We visited some amazing places including a juicy sausage roll with Stilton from a famous London butcher Mark Zuckerberg invested in and a fish shop that won the National Fish and Chip Awards.
We also enjoyed a cheese board paired with local cider in what was a stable many years ago.
I tasted Mead for the first time and the sweet honey flavour went down a treat (definitely getting that for Christmas).
We ended the tour with a scrumptious sticky toffee pudding with a good cup of tea.
You can upgrade your tour to include two alcoholic drinks or you can just buy what you want while on tour. Kev and I enjoyed a Whiskey Ginger which was highly recommended at the Whiskey Ginger stand at Borough Market.
We ended the tour with content stomachs. It was a great tour and a good way to get a flavour of what is around the area. The food spots are carefully picked which means you get to try the finest dishes included award wining ones.
The tour was value for money and I cannot wait to go another one.
