Just before we all went into lockdown, Nadiya And Fred had a programme on the BBC – Remarkable places to eat in Yorkshire. One of their recommendations was Betty’s Tearoom which i love (the best fat rascals) and the other was The Seaview restaurant in Saltburn on Sea.
Unfortunately the restaurant shut around the same time for a long renovation meaning we could not visit when we wanted to. Fast forward to two years and we finally drove to Saltburn on route to Scotland and enjoyed a beautiful seafood lunch over looking the beach. Yes it is right on the Seafront and a beautiful spot.
You cannot book a table for lunch. Customers just turn up and wait outside. We got there just after midday and were at the table in 15 minutes. Not sure if they open the doors and let customers queue inside if it is heavy rain.
There is parking by the restaurant however they go very quickly so sometimes you could be waiting a while for a space. If you do not mind walking, I would recommend parking on one of the side streets at the top of the hill and walking down. It is a bit of a steep walk back however perfect to take in the views.
Food & Drink:
At The Seaview Restaurant expect simple, quality food made using the freshest ingredients. They pride themselves for never compromising on quality or sustainability.
After watching the series, we definitely knew we were going to try the Saltburn Crab Brioche. We also chose the King Prawn starter to share.
I had the Saltburn By The Sea local gin with Yorkshire tonic water to wash it all down. It came in the normal gin glasses and was garnished with edible flowers.
Saltburn Crab Brioche: The restaurant’s fisherman is at sea 4 days a week so you know you will get the freshest crabs on the brioche. The dish has a combination of delicate lightly dressed white and brown crab with crayfish tails, leaves and edible flowers all on a long brioche. The dish is served with skinny fries. The portion is generous and quite filling, especially with the addition of the fries.
King Prawn: This was a generous size too especially as it was a starter. The garlic was evident and the prawns were flavoured well with it. The was supposed to be chilli in the dish however we could not taste that. It was still enjoyable and served with ciabatta bread to mop everything up in the end.
The bill came to less than £40. Considering we had fresh seafood and were full up after the meal it was good value for money.
