Get ready to celebrate Indian cooking with Portugese influence (Luca- Indian Cuisine) at Estado Da India.
Located in Harborne, Birmingham, the eatery is owned by the Lasan Group, owners of the popular Lasan, Fiesta Dal Asado and Sonrisa. You can read about my Sonrisa visit here.
Surroundings & Service
The restaurant has a selection of booths and tables making it suitable for a quick casual lunch, cosy date or a social catch up.
With a striking floor and great vibrant interiors, the ambiance is warm and welcoming.
During our visit, the service was friendly and upbeat. Staff were there to ensure we had a memorable meal. They were able to recommend dishes based on what we wanted.

Food & Drink
The dining style is tapas. I love this idea because you can try a selection of dishes and share too. I find it a more social way of enjoying food. They recommend around 3 to 4 dishes per person. The dishes come out as and when they are ready which means if you want more you can order it during the meal.
For four of us, the bill came to just under £140. This included service charge, four drinks and the food below.
- WILD MUSHROOM CROQUETTE: These velvety mushroom croquettes just melt in your mouth
- IBERICO VINDALOO PORK RIBS: 4 JUICY SLOW COOKED PORK RIBS COATED IN A LIGHT SPICE
- SAMAAR COD: A CHUNKY YET DELICATE PIECE OF COD IN A BEAUTIFUL CORIANDER, CHILLI & CUMIN SAUCE
- LAMB ESPETADA: PERFECTLY COOKED LAMB WITH marinated in paprika, garlic, bay leaf and ginger
- PRAWN ESPETADA: ABOUT 5 JUICY PRAWNS, GRILLED WELL AND COVERED IN A TASTY CORIANDER DRESSING
- OCTOPUS & POTATOES: PIECES OF OCTOPUS AND POTATOES GRILLED ON A SKEWER AND COVERED IN A CORIANDER PASTE
- DUROC PORK BELLY: FINE PIECES OF PORK BELLY ON A SKEWER WITH A LIGHT KICK.
- CHICKEN ARROZ: TWO DELICIOUS PIECES OF CHICKEN ON THE BONE SERVED ON A BEAUTIFULLY MADE RICE WITH PEAS
- TOMATE NAAN: I LOVED THIS NAAN – PIECES OF SEASONED AND LIGHTLY COOKED TOMATOES WITH SOME CORIANDER ON FLUFFY BREAD
- GOAN CAULIFLOWER: THIS CREAMY DELICIOUS SIDE DISH WAS LIKE A CURRY…WE COULD TAKE GINGER, GARLIC, CHILLIES AND COCONUT
- GOAN LAMB; JUICY PIECES OF LAMB IN A FLAVOURFUL SAUCE THAT WAS NOT TOO SPICY
- MASALA FRIES: PIMPED FRIES ALWAYS ARE A WINNER
- NAAN BREAD: FLUFFY NAAN BREAD PREPARED HOW IT SHOULD BE
- passion fruit kulfi: this wasn’t kulfi as such but it was an incredible dessert. A soft homemade ice cream flavoured with passion fruit and served with passion fruit pump and chopped kiwi….all the tropical vibes right in this bowl.
The Goan dishes were not as pungent as you would get in Goa, however worked well with the rest of the flavours and tastes on the menu. It was all balanced. The server did say he could make the dishes more spicy if we wanted to when we ordered.
The grilled dishes were delicious and the meats were perfectly cooked and marinated. If I had to complain about something was that all the grilled dishes had the same sauce on there…the coriander one. The tastes could have been a bit different – they tasted similar.
When it comes to drinks, you are spoilt for choice. Cocktails, mocktails, wine and beer (on tap too). They have it all. Cocktails are priced at £9 which is not bad.
There was ample food for us with a bit extra to take some home too.
