Wreaths are made through out the year and no longer just for Christmas. When a notification popped up for an evergreen wreath workshop at one of my favourite cafes, Public in Loughborough, I had to get one of my a gals to come with me for the Galentines event.
Workshop Details
The workshop was £100 for two and included:
- Welcome Drink (glass of fizz)
- Valentines goodie bags (came with cute stickers, valentine’s day cards)
- Grazing Board
- Wreath making workshop
It was hosted by an independent florist, The Flower Plant in Sileby, who also happens to make the door wreaths for Leicester’s only Michelin Restaurant Johns House. I will be using them soon.
£50 per person may sound like a lot however break it down and it is good value. Pampas on their own are expensive and if you go and buy a wreath it could set you back £60. This way we got to style it the way we wanted to. Also having an evergreen wreath means you can have it all year around.

details of the evening
I am a big fan of Public and was half hoping they had their epic sausage rolls on their grazing board. Well you can imagine my eyes when it was delivered. Not only are public known for their amazing fresh bread, but they also make great sandwiches. The grazing board consisted of focaccia, chilli & cheese sourdough, hummus, olives, grapes, and their epic homemade sausage roll. It would have been nice to have some cheese on their too however it was still delicious.
The event started at 7pm and we had until around 740pm to mingle, eat and chat. On the evening we could buy more drinks from the venue. We were then given a demonstration on how to make the wreath on a hoop. Once this was done, we were free to help ourselves to all flowers and start creating. We all had special cutters and wires on the table to make the wreaths.
We could use as much as we wanted, and the host even said we could take some extra bits to modify the wreath when we got home.We also had a great variety to pick from including
- Dried Limonium
- Bleached Bunny Tails
- Dried Miscanthus
- Pampas Grass
- Echinops Globe thistle
- Bleached Ruscus
It was great to see everyone’s different creations. My friend Clare had a more intricate design which looks so beautiful on her wall. I went all out with the pampas which I really like.
During the evening the florists came around to see if we needed any help and guided us accordingly.
The event ended at 9pm and what a great evening it was.
I would definitely be up for one every season because you cannot have enough wreaths right?

public & plants aka public
As for Public and Plants, if you are in Leicestershire and want a relaxed place to enjoy all things good bread, check them out.
Many who live in Loughborough do not even know about this place. It is discreet unintentionally and in a great building.
