Butter prices are creeping up. Did you know you can make your own homemade butter with just one ingredient? In this post I am going to show you how to make hot honey butter!

Yes homemade butter can be made with just double cream. Paired with some chilli infused honey (hot honey) the Hot Honey butter Recipe is simple and yet adds a gourmet touch to your dishes. It’s a great balance between sweet and spicy with a touch of salt. Even my dad who can be a fussy eater enjoyed this butter.
Hot Honey Butter elevates dishes and brings a savoury and sweet element to dishes. You can spice it up how you want by adding different chillies and even adding in chilli sauce.
With the festive period coming around, I like to make a batch, cut it into slices and freeze it in preparation for dinner parties. Every one loves a warm roll and with this butter it will be sublime.
How to make 1 ingredient Butter
You only need one ingredient and that is Double Cream ( Heavy cream). All you need to do is churn/beat the cream until the fat separates from the liquid, giving you butter and buttermilk.







Homemade butter tastes better than shop bought one and it is cheaper.
- Add your cream to a bowl or container that is suitable for the amount of cream you have.
- Whip the cream on medium – high. It will go from thickening to curdling to splitting. The butter will then clump together.
- This takes about 10 minutes.
- Take the butter and rinse it in ice cold water. You need to keep kneading and squeezing it until the water runs clear.

How Long Does Homemade Butter Last
Once you make the butter, it should be used within 2 days if left out. Ensure it is covered.
When stored in an airtight container, it can last in the fridge for up to two weeks. Alternatively you can shape it, slice it and store it in the freezer. To use it just thaw the hot honey butter until it comes to room temperature.
How do you make Hot Honey Sauce
You just have to eye ball the ingredients. You will not go wrong with this recipe and everyone prefers either a sweeter or more spicier version of hot honey sauce. Here are the measurements I used for the little pot of butter I made.
Ingredients for Hot Honey Sauce
- 2 tbsps. honey
- 2 dried red chillies cracked open for the flakes
- ¼ tsp of garlic salt
- Red chilli powder
- black pepper





How to make Hot Honey Butter
Start my warming your honey. It just needs to be warm! Add in your chilli flakes, salt, chilli powder and chilli flakes. Not just let it infuse. I left the casing of the chilli flakes in the honey for extra flavour and look it out before mixing the butter and hot honey sauce together.

Homemade butter is versatile. You can add whatever you want to it. Some of my favourite combinations are salt with roasted garlic and fresh herbs, hot honey (obvs) and just plain salt and pepper.
What can I make with buttermilk
Buttermilk is the by product of the cream. So you get butter and buttermilk by churning the heavy cream. There are so many recipes that can be made with buttermilk. These fluffy buckwheat pancakes have buttermilk in them and it makes them so tasty.
Hot Honey Butter Serving Suggestions
This butter goes with anything. Spread it on some crumpets, toss some boiled potatoes with the butter, melt it over cooked chicken, add some on your roasted sweet potatoes and cooked corn on the cob. It is versatile.

Ingredients

- 200 ml double cream heavy cream
Hot Honey Sauce
- 2 tbsps. honey
- 2 dried red chillies cracked open for the chilli flakes
- ¼ tsp of garlic salt
- Red pepper flakes
- Black cracked pepper

- Place the honey in a small pan and heat it just so it is warm
- Add in the chilli flakes and salt and let this infuse while you make the butter.

- Combine the butter with the hot honey sauce. You can whip this or mix with a fork
- Shape, garnish and serve
